Today being a festival of the Turks it was expected that perhaps they would make an attack during the night, in anticipation of such an attack the troops in support were brought up to there to ??? man the fire trenches and stayed there throughout the night.  The troops stood to arms from 8pm until 8.15pm – 1.40am to 2.10am and 3am to 3.30am.  The expected attack did not take place.

During the night a very offensive smell was noticeable by the men in No. 4 and 5 sap.  On investigation it appears that one of the enemy had crawled out of his trench and set fire to two dead Turks about 30 yards from our sap.  Having previously poured some strange liquid over the bodies.  The burning of these bodies lit up intervening ground during the hours of 3am and 3.30am

Very quiet day.  About 5pm a cheer was sent right along our whole line to celebrate the taking of ?Ragbod by the Anglo-Sudan forces.  This cheering especially upset the enemy for he immediately set up a heavy rifle and machine gun fire which lasted about twenty minutes.  They evidently expected an attack as their communication trenches were sucked under? men.
